The Work Is Not All The Work

I read an article today, and while I understand the author’s view, I feel like the author hasn’t really experienced a corporate job. People who let AI do the PowerPoint might also be doing a million other things, and getting rid of one annoying task isn’t really getting rid of your work. After all, a builder was paid for hammering nails into the wall (among other stuff), not for nailgunning them there. The result, the same. Because the builder still has other stuff to do. So does a white collar worker.

Most of the stuff that AI is replacing outside of dev work is just unimportant, corporate bullshit that is attached to the actual work of many people in those corporate jobs. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have other work to do.

AI is a tool. Some people use it meaningfully to get help and get rid of annoying tasks. Some people use it to outsource their thinking, and the second group is the one that should be afraid about their future.
